Who we are

A 4 p.m. discharge shouldn't mean a 9 p.m. arrival.

Safe Harbor was started by people who had spent too many evenings in hospital lobbies waiting on a ride that had been promised twice. We built the company we wished had shown up.

Our story

We measure ourselves in minutes, because families do.

Non-emergency transport gets treated as the last, least important link in a care plan. It isn't. It's the part patients remember, sitting in a wheelchair by the sliding doors, watching the parking lot, wondering if anyone is coming.

So we run this like a dispatch operation, not a taxi service. Every trip has a unit, a window, and a name attached to it. When something slips, you hear it from us before you have to ask.

  • Locally owned and dispatched from Harrisonburg
  • Contracted with regional hospitals, dialysis centres, and rehab facilities
  • Drivers stay with recurring passengers wherever scheduling allows

How we operate

Four things we don't negotiate.

These aren't values on a wall. They're the reasons a driver gets pulled off a route, and the reasons a trip gets refused.

01

Early is on time

A driver who arrives at the exact minute has already cut it too close for someone using a walker.

02

The passenger sets the pace

If a transfer takes eleven minutes instead of four, the schedule absorbs it, not the person in the chair.

03

A person answers

No hold music while a family waits at a curb in February. The dispatch line does not roll to voicemail.

04

We turn down what we can't do well

If a trip needs clinical monitoring we don't provide, we say so and point you to who can.

The crew

Hired slowly, trained properly.

Every driver clears a full background check before they meet a passenger, and finishes supervised ride-alongs before they take a route alone.

  • CPR and first aid certified, renewed annually
  • Passenger assistance and safe-transfer training
  • Dementia-aware communication
  • Telematics-monitored driving, reviewed monthly

Family of brands

Two companies, one standard.

Safe Harbor Medical Transport gets patients to care. Safe Harbor Home Health brings care to them. Same ownership, same six counties, same expectation that somebody shows up when they said they would.

Ready when you are

Ready to book a trip?

Describe the passenger and the appointment. Dispatch will tell you which level fits, including when the honest answer is a different provider.
