Our commitment

Most people who use this site are arranging care for someone with a disability, and many have one themselves. A website that is hard to use would be a poor advertisement for a company that exists to remove barriers.

Safe Harbor Medical Transport is working to make this site usable by as many people as possible, regardless of how they browse.

The standard we aim for

We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at Level AA. This is the benchmark most commonly referenced under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504.

We describe the site as partially conformant: most of it meets the standard, and the exceptions we know about are listed below.

What we have done

Steps taken in building and maintaining this site:

  • Semantic headings and landmarks so screen readers can navigate by structure
  • A skip link to jump straight past the navigation to the main content
  • Visible focus outlines on every interactive element for keyboard users
  • Text and background colours checked for contrast against WCAG AA
  • Every form field has a permanently visible label, not a placeholder standing in for one
  • Errors are announced in text, not signalled by colour alone
  • Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images; decorative images hidden from assistive technology
  • Animation and scroll effects are switched off automatically when your device requests reduced motion
  • Layouts reflow to 320px and support browser zoom to 200% without loss of content

Known limitations

We would rather be honest about the gaps than claim more than we can support:

  • Some photographs are supplied by third parties and may carry generic alternative text until replaced
  • Documents such as service agreements are not yet available in fully tagged accessible PDF
  • Third-party content embedded in future, such as a map, may not meet the same standard

We are working through these. If one of them is blocking you today, contact us and we will get you the information another way.

Getting information another way

Nothing on this site is only available on this site. Anything here can be provided by telephone, in large print, or read aloud to you by a coordinator.

Call 540-555-0198 and say what format works for you. There is no charge for this, and no need to explain why.

Tell us about a problem

If you hit a barrier on this site, we want to know. Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened. If you use assistive technology, naming it helps us reproduce the problem.

We aim to respond within five business days.
